1. Where do I find more information regarding TMC?

2. Which stations broadcast TMC?

A. Questions regarding vío ® TMC receiver:

1. For what kind of hard- and software can vío ® be used?

To use the vío ® TMC receiver you will need:

-

A PDA with serial interface RS232 and
operating system MICROSOFT WINDOWS CE (Pocket PC) version 4.0 or later

-

A navigation program equipped with the TMC function of one of the following manufacturers:
DESTINATOR TECHNOLOGIES, iGO, MAP&GUIDE, NAVIGON, Sygic

-

Power supply cable for your PDA with connection for an external GPS receiver according to RS232.
vío ® is compatible with external GPS receivers of the following manufacturers: Amaryllo, Evermore, Fortuna, Globalsat, Haicom, Holux, Keomo, Leadtek, Navilock, Polstar, Rikaline, Road Navigation, SysOnChip and XAiOX, each equipped with a PS/2 or RJ11 or compatible connector

-

If your PDA is not equipped with an integrated GPS receiver, you need a GPS receiver matching the power supply cable described above.

Following PDA devices have been tested (many others are also supported):

-
-

-

Acer N30, N35
Dell Axim X30, X50v, X51v
Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX N500, N520, N560
Hewlett-Packard iPAQ h2210, rx1950, hx 2190, hx 2490, hx 2790, hx 4700
Medion MD 41600, MD 95000
Qtek 2020, 9090
T-Mobile MDA II, MDA III
TYPHOON MyGuide 6500 XL
XDA II, III
Yakumo AlphaX, Yakumo Delta 300 GPS

vío ® cannot be used for PDAs which have only USB interfaces available.

Following incompatibilities are known:

-

Asus A63xx - vío ® can only be used with an additional external cable-connected GPS-receiver
Reasoning: these PDA models of Asus cannot open more than one COM-Port at the same time, which would be necessary in case of using the internal GPS receiver of these devices

2. What do the vío ® LEDs mean?

Red (long):

-

vío ® has not yet been detected by the navigation program

-

no reception possible (aerial poorly aligned or not connected, tunnel, basement garage etc.)

Red (short):

-

GPS signal is not being processed completely by the navigation. Possible causes could be too high a work-load on the hardware or too many activated NMEA sentences in the GPS receiver. This should not be a problem, provided your navigation program does not "lag behind" the actual position

Green:

-

Connection to the navigation software has been established.
This light will only come on if
- the driver software has been installed,
- the navigation software has been started, and
- all connections have been established

Yellow:

-

external GPS receiver has been detected

Flashing:

-

yellow or green - RDS/TMC data are being received

No light:

-

please check the power supply

3. Why does my navigation system show only few/no messages, though vío ® shows TMC-reception

through its green and yellow LEDs continuously flashing?

This can be due to several reasons:

-

TMC-data are always continously broadcasted on the TMC-channel of a station eines Senders, also in cases when there are no or only few traffic messages available. In these situations the transferred TMC-data are for example station information or - in case of only few messages - they are repeated more frequently.

-

Some navigation systems show only a selection of received TMC-messages. For example they focus on traffic congestions in an area of 200 km around the current GPS position or the target address, and exclude all other messages like road works, road blockings or weather related traffic information. Some navigation system also allow you to adjust your navigation system regarding the selection of traffic messages.

-

Some navigation systems show TMC-messages only as soon as the current GPS-position is available, when it is not known from previous usage.

4. Which Baudrate has to be selected at the connected GPS receiver?

vío ® automatically adapts to usual GPS baudrates between 1,200 und 57,600 BAUD.

5. Which Baudrate has to be selected at the PDA?

No baud rate has to be specified on the PDA. The baudrate required is configured automatically.

6. Can vío ® be used for PDAs with Bluetooth GPS receiver?

Yes, if your PDA supports more than one COM-Port.
All navigation programs compatible with vío ® (besides Destinator PN and MN|4) can get the GPS and TMC signal from the same COM-Port as well as from different COM-Ports. Thus, if your PDA supports more than one COM-Port, you can use vío ® for PDAs with BT-GPS-receiver. In this case you only connect vío ® through a serial (GPS-) connector cable to the PDA. You do not need any additional hard-wired GPS receiver. COM-Port for the TMC-receiver is in most cases COM-Port1, the COM-Port for the GPS receiver remains the same.

B. Questions regarding the supported navigation systems:

Destinator PN

How do you active TMC?

With vío ® TMC receiver connected select "TMC messg." in "GPS Status GPS".

Can I use vío ® with Destinator PN on a PDA with built-in GPS receiver?

Destinator PN does only consider TMC messages being available on the same COM-Port as GPS data. Therefore for this hardware configuration you need to connect an external GPS receiver at vío, the built-in GPS receiver will then not be used.

Destinator 6

How do you active TMC?

With vío ® TMC receiver connected switch "Traffic Info" to "On" in "Settings GPS Signal Set", afterwards select "Done".

Destinator 6 (TrafficSam)

How do you active TMC?

With vío ® TMC receiver connected switch "Traffic Info" to "On" in "Settings GPS Signal Set", afterwards select "Done".

Falk Navigator SC

How do you active TMC?

With vío ® TMC receiver connected select "Settings Data proc. Configure automatically".

What can I do, if vío ® shows whith its flashing green and yellow LEDs, that it has received TMC messages since start, but Falk Navigator SC does not show them?

Interrupt the navigation whithout quitting the program by only going back to target selection. Restart the navigation selecting "last address". If also then not all TMC messages are shown, it can be due to the fact that Falk Navigator SC focusses on traffic congestions and excludes some message types e.g. road works and road closures.

Falk Navigator 4

How do you active TMC?

With vío ® TMC receiver connected it activates automatically, no further adjustments are necessary.

iGO 2006 SE

Navigon MobileNavigator|5

How do you active TMC?
